Reminiscing Memories Through Historical Walk #CNYtoCherish

With the human relations that we keep close, there exists a treasure of memories that resonate deeply with tradition, family ties, and cultural significance. The tradition that we keep grows warmer with every celebration and festive season. And as the year of Lunar New Year approaches, excitement and happiness fill the air nearing the celebration of the year of the dragon.

Recalling memories this Lunar New Year is important for us to pause and reflect on the memories that have shaped us. These cherished moments, whether they be laughter-filled adventures or quiet moments of serenity, remind us of who we are, where we come from, and the values that unite us.

Welcoming the celebration Lunar New Year, MKS has gathered #MKSPeople to celebrate and to recall their most memorable memories during this festive season. In Jakarta and Bandung, MKS held a walking tour of each cities chinatown called “Walk Along Memories” to tie up our #CNYtoCherish theme. Each #MKSPeople from each city learned about their own versions of Chinatown, while mingling with new friends, and savouring traditional delicacies.

Jakarta

In the midst of this bustling city, Jakarta still has some of the most alive and well-known parts of their Chinatown. With the help of @bentengwalkingtour we take our #MKSPeople to experience Glodok, one of the oldest Chinatowns in Indonesia. The walk was full of historical sights, reminding them of the cultural heritage of the Chinese residing in our country.

Bandung

Hidden within its tourist attractions, Bandung’s Chinatown is scattered throughout every part of this city. But some of the most highlighted parts are the main attraction of our tour with #MKSPeople, guided with the help of @bandoengwaktoeitoe. From the streets of Alkatiri to Braga Street, we learned about the hidden history of the Chinese people in Bandung. We ended our walk with a warm traditional meal of noodles from the famous @bakmietjokin.

The Walk Along Memories Tour has a huge impact in reviving #MKSPeople’s memories of Lunar New Year. One of our attendees, Diana, said she wanted to learn more about her culture and recall the memories of the festivities. “The celebration goes deep inside myself,” she said, “it was fun to learn more about my culture and the town that I grew up in.”

Other attendees, Rania, says she never actually celebrated Lunar New Year, but was excited to learn about the historical sight of Chinatown in Bandung and has the utmost respect for the culture. “I’ve tried the dish, had friends who celebrated, but never got to actually walk the memory lane! It was fun!”

We also want to give special Exclusive Angpao for our #MKSPeople! Get 25k off every purchase with the code “CHERISHCNY” valid until the 14th of February 2024.

As we welcome the Lunar New Year, let’s pause to cherish our treasured memories and customs, acknowledging the deep sense of connection that binds us together. May our hearts be filled with joy, our homes be filled with laughter, and our lives be enriched by the bonds of family and community. Happy Lunar New Year!
